Buzz Print together with illustrator Ramiliano Roscom Guerra met up with mountain guides (also known as Malim Gunung) Rizuan Kauhinin and John Hiur to hand out the Malim Gunung t-shirts.
Rizuan, who made social media headlines when a photo of him carrying a Singaporean student following the Mt Kinabalu earthquake on 5 June went viral, were in town en route to another charity event, with fellow guide, John. In the meet-up, Rizuan and John shared their experiences during the tragedy; and how it affected them emotionally and financially. As most of them are full time guides, they face an uncertain future following the suspension of climbing activities on the mountain for the next few weeks.
We hope our small contribution, through the Mount Kinabalu Guides Association (PEMANGKINA), will assist them financially until they are back on their job again.
We will be handing over the donation on 14th July 2015, 40 days after the tragedy, and we hope to reach our target of RM10,000 from the public. We’d like to thank everyone who have purchased the t-shirts, and for those who would still like to buy them, stocks are still available at RM35 each. Drop by at any of our outlets (Warisan Square Shopping Mall, Kota Kinabalu or Damas 118 Plaza, Jalan Penampang Bypass), to make your contribution.
